Testimonials and Reviews

We pride ourselves on making sure that our guests have a fantastic experience. Take a look below at what some of our previous customers have to say about their time at Henrietta House.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in Asheville. The property was very clean and beautifully restored. We were on a quiet street and our stay was very relaxing. The owner was so very nice and accommodating. The apartment was well stocked with everything we needed. We spent a day at the beautiful Biltmore Estate and a day hiking on the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway. I would definitely recommend the property to others.

This apartment was LARGE and well laid out. The queen-size bed was comfortable, and the living room couch served as an additional sleeping place. The open kitchen came fully equipped for cooking, even though the only meals we fixed were breakfast. The linens, bedding and towels were high quality. The TV was great (bring some videos!!). And the location was fantastic — Just north of the downtown arts district, with free parking and a quiet neighborhood. We will definitely come again! — Dev and Gaby

We reserved this apartment (based on excellent reviews) for our first trip to Asheville to celebrate our anniversary. The apartment did not disappoint. It’s an older building, but they have upgraded items and it’s a nice, little, cozy place to stay. Parking is on the street and the streets are narrow, but we didn’t have any issues. While you could walk to some downtown places, we ended up taking Uber due to the weather and the distance. We were there for three nights and cooked in for two of the three nights, which was great. We will definitely try to stay here on any future trips to Asheville. It was clean, had adequate space for two people and was very cozy to just hang out at home. We highly recommend this property! Thanks for making our first visit to Asheville so enjoyable!!

There is a warmth and a simplicity about this beautiful apartment that invites you to settle in and call it home for a few days. It had everything we needed, it was impeccably clean and Shay was lovely to correspond with. Highly recommend…

This was one of our best bnb experience ever. The place is clean and decorated with taste, fully equipped and located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood. There are no mosquitoes or insects to be found (very important to us). All of these qualities let us feel at home right away, and throughout the whole stay. Shay and David were very helpful and recommended nice restaurants and activities to do in the area. They were reactive to answer our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely book again!

We rented The Starling in late March, ‘18. After searching for hours for just the right location, with a reasonable price we settled on The Starling. We were unfamiliar with Asheville, and weren’t sure where to stay, but this location was very close to everything. The apartment is within a 3-5 minute drive to very good grocery stores and restaurants, 5 minutes to Downtown Asheville, 10-15 minutes to the Biltmore Estate, and within a half hour or so to some of the most scenic locations along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The apartment is 4 units, with on street parking. It was easy to get close to the front door for loading and unloading. After looking at the street view on Google maps, it appears the owners have done work to the entry area by replacing older unlevel brick, with new sidewalks. When you walk into the apartment, it’s as if you’re transported back in time when you see the stucco exterior, arched entryways, wood floors and hinged, swinging windows. It’s a reminder of simplicity in life. We loved sleeping with the windows open and having a gentle breeze. We were especially surprised of just how quiet it was when we awoke Sunday morning. The location made it easy to drop in for a quick rest and regrouping throughout the day, and it was always a welcome site when looking to unwind at the end of the evening. This apartment has all the basic necessities, the location was very convenient, and the cost was reasonable. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

We stayed in the Starling apartment for 6 nights and really enjoyed it. Super comfortable bed, close to downtown, lovely decor, very quiet neighborhood, and pleanty of space. My only complaint is that they did not supply sufficient paper products. No tissues, no napkins, and not nearly enough toilet paper or paper towels for 6 days..had to run out and buy some. I would not have expected to have to bring those items. Other than that, it was wonderful.

On our 4th night in Asheville we were downtown enjoying some drinks when my husband lost our keys. At 2:00 AM on a saturday night we were locked out. I was horrified to have to call and wake the owners. Shay called me back in 10 minutes and David came over and unlocked the door with a new key in 20 minutes. I felt so bad I must have apologized 10 times. But they were great about it. On the phone and in person they were really gracious and genuinely made us feel like it was ok. Thanks for being so cool! It’s such a nice place. I can’t wait to come back and next time I’ll hold on to our keys 😉

If you are looking for something that is super close to downtown this is the place. We had a perfect weekend with a trip to the Biltmore and it snowed all weekend long! Apartment has all the necessities you need and was super cozy! If I go back i will try to stay here again!

The space was great. It felt like home. The renovations were beautiful. The decor was lovely. We enjoyed the books, so much so, that we ordered a copy of one. The location was fantastic. The area was very walkable. We walked to HomeGrown for dinner and had a wonderful meal. The space was perfect for us and we enjoyed our stay. Gwendolyn and Dennis Harvey

Loved this little apartment…it has so much character! Location is great, just a few minutes drive to downtown, but still within walking distance to some great restaurants (Home Grown!). Booking with Shay was easy and convenient. Would definitely stay again when in the area!

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay. The building and apartment is charming and clean, plus it was centrally located to about everything we needed (including Trader Joes just down the block.) The hosts were communicative and made sure our checkin process was smooth. Would highly recommend a stay here for your next trip to Asheville.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in our Henrietta House apt. Tastefully and comfortably decorated, with all we needed to feel at home for our week’s stay. It was our third vacation in Asheville, and we loved being in a neighborhood close enough to walk downtown to catch some local theater on a Sunday afternoon, stay downtown for dinner and walk back “home”. Easy hop over to West Asheville, River Arts Districts, and local hiking on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Enjoyed strolling a few blocks for morning coffee, groceries at Greenlife, and dinner at Homegrown. Shay gave some great recommendations for local hikes, (check out Dupont Falls), attractions, and places to eat and imbibe! We look forward to a return trip. Elaine and Steve, Newburyprt, MA

This is a great older apartment building with lots of character and everything you need. It’s a place you would want to live in, if you were fortunate enough to live in Asheville. Located less than a mile from downtown and a quick jump to the highways. Shay is very gracious and quick to answer any questions. I would DEFINETELY stay here in my next trip.

This was such a lovely find. My husband and I stayed here after our wedding in PA for a little mini moon before the holidays. The apartment is well looked after, quaintly decorated, and in a great location. Downtown is quite close. We walked once, but with the cold weather, decided to uber most times. An über ride downtown is only $5. We highly recommend!

Had a great experience staying at this location. The pictures are dead on to what you get when opening the door to the apartment. The apartment is a place you’d want to call your own. Very clean, great location, excellent recommendations from Shay, convenient parking. I would absolutely stay here again if available, and recommend to anyone interested in visiting Asheville.

We LOVED it here. The apartment is EXACTLY as it looks in the photos. Very clean. Very well cared for- they updated an historic building and modernized it, but without loosing the orginal charm. Located in a quiet and safe neighborhood very close to downtown. Nearby grocery stores and restaurants (try the BBQ place down the road- yum!). The owner was a pleasure to deal with. Excellent communication. Just book this place now and stop looking around!!!

I wanted a more local vibe than staying in a hotel. This apartment reminds me SO MUCH of my old place in SF! The neighborhood has some great old architecture and very friendly neighbors. I walked to the Asheville Yoga Studio (in the neighborhood) almost every morning. Then had lunch next door at Elements Restaurant and Juice Bar (a must try). The apartment has a unique historic charm, yet perfectly modernized. I LOVED chillin in the sunroom with a glass of wine after a long day of hiking. The owners gave me some great recommendations on food and places to hike. It was nice to have an “off the beaten path experience”.

This was our first VRBO experience. I was a bit nervous to book, but I’m so so so happy we did! This was an awesome apartment with a full kitchen, living room, private bedroom, bath and sunroom all for cheaper than a small 1 room hotel downtown. Downtown Asheville can be a bit hectic and we didn’t want to be near the interstate. This place is in a lovely old neighborhood and convenient to everything. It was nice to just get up in the morning and go for a walk. The owner, Shay was so sweet and nice. She gave us great recommendations for food, microbreweries and some hiking trails too. She runs an amazing farmers market on Saturdays. Overall we had an amazing time and look forward to going back!

This is our second time staying here and we hope to come back again soon. The apartment is beautifully decorated and has all the comforts of home without being too cluttered (like my house, lol). We love the location and neighborhood. It’s quiet, friendly and centrally located. We bring our bikes, and it’s an easy ride through the neighborhood to downtown. Parking can be quite a challenge downtown, so the bikes are perfect. You can also catch uber for $5. I highly recommend this place!

We would absolutely stay here again. The property is simply/beautifully decorated and spotless, and the kitchen had all the basics we needed to make dinners. The location is just a few minutes from downtown, and it’s a couple of blocks back from the main road in a quiet neighborhood. Thanks to our hosts for a lovely experience!

We love this place so much that we are writing our 1st review. The property was perfect. Beautiful, warm and cozy historic building. We loved this place so much that we ended up extending our trip. A well maintained & nicely decorated apartment. Comfortable bed, fluffy pillows, cozy couch, endless tv channels and a fully equipped kitchen. We felt so welcomed and the owner even helped up carry our bags. David and Shay are both so friendly and nice. We even met their dog Maggie who is the cutest little Sheltie! Shay checked on us to ensure our comfort and even dropped off a jar of pickles that she made. David recommended the best breakfast place in the world! We ended our stay with a visit to the Grove Park Inn (5 minutes away) and watched the sunset with a spectacular view of the city. Thank you Shay and David for your hospitality during our stay in Asheville! We hope to come back here again soon!

My family and I (husband and two children) rented this place for four nights recently. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was very clean and well organized. It was really close to downtown and we enjoyed going there for meals and drinks. We did mostly outdoor adventure activities in Asheville, which we drove a little ways to, so it was nice to have a home to stay in near fun restaurants, Trader Joe’s, etc.The property is best suited for two people, but since our children are younger, it was fine for us. The owners are very organized and respond quickly to inquiries about the property. Would definitely recommend this place.

We have just returned from spending a delightful month Henrietta House. The apartment we stayed in was exactly as pictured on the VRBO website. We appreciated lots of little details including the fact that the unit was stocked with coffee and tea (a pleasant surprise our first morning there). The owner was very helpful and was available for direct contact. She was able to respond to any and all concerns right away. She also was helpful with other aspects of our vacation suggesting activities, restaurants and shopping options. It only took 5 minutes to get to downtown shops and restaurants. We had a car for only 1 week and relied on Uber the rest of the time. Given the short distances this was actually easier than having a car. If you are looking for comfortable accommodations in beautiful Asheville, NC, we highly recommend staying at Henrietta House.

We recently stayed at this property for the second time and once again had a truly fabulous experience. Just like last time, the property was clean and beautifully decorated. We had an excellent experience here and of course can’t wait to get back again!

I rented this apartment for my mom during the thanksgiving holiday. The apartment is impeccable in cleanliness and is beautifully decorated with an artist’s touch! The kitchen is well stocked with the essentials, and the bedding and towels are very nice. No detail is missed to make your stay enjoyable. The apartment has natural lighting, and a comfortable front sitting room for enjoying morning coffee. The sitting room has a beautiful tree outside the window, and the red leaves were still on the tree in November. I highly recommend this apartment, and the value is outstanding.

The location of the apartment was the only drawback. While being fairly convenient and a little over a mile from downtown, the walk along the way was underwhelming. We solved this by using Uber during our stay or using the downtown garages which were both inexpensive. Both were anywhere between five and seven dollars and Uber will be at your doorstep within 5 minutes max. The apartment was clean, well decorated and well worth the reduced cost being just outside downtown. Great experience overall and would return and recommend to others.

We are experienced VRBO renters and have traveled around the world using VRBO. This was one of our favorites rentals we have ever had! It was clean, charming and well located right near the heart of Asheville. The owners were very gracious and went the extra mile to ensure our experience was the best possible ever. They were very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. They truly cared about our time in Asheville. We will be back!

When we visit Asheville, we usually stay at Grove Park or Grand Bohemian because they’re near attractions/places that we like to visit. Since our visit was right after Christmas, however, rates at these hotels were absolutely outrageous. I was so lucky to find the Henrietta House because it’s 5 minutes away from Grove Park, 5 minutes away from downtown, and 10 minutes from Biltmore. I planned out a birthday weekend for my mom that included visits to all 3 of those places, so the Henrietta House was perfect! It was clean, the kitchen was fully stocked (silverware, dishes, glasses and cups), and it was quiet. Parking is along the street directly in front of the house which makes loading and unloading the car easy. There’s a TV with cable, and we even found a backgammon board game in the sitting room. We were really tired the 3rd night, so it was nice to make dinner in the kitchen, watch TV, and play a few games of backgammon. It was really a perfect trip! Don’t hesitate at all if you’re thinking about staying here!

The place was cozy, clean and comfortable. It took us less than 2 minutes to get downtown and we were super close to lot’s of amazing restaurants. That said, the only reason I’m writing a review is because the people were so cool. The owners were friendly and helpful. We had a problem with the cable that connects the TV and they came over in less than 20 minutes to get it fixed with a new cable. They had some fantastic restaurant recommendations and took care to make sure we were happy. It was a really pleasant stay. I’d come back for sure.

My husband, 17 year old daughter and I enjoyed our stay. Very clean & comfortable and it really is just minutes from downtown and the Grove Part Inn. There are many restaurants just a short walk from the property. The price was very reasonable and the owners were tremendously helpful and friendly. They were available 24-7. We look forward to coming back next year.

I travelled to Asheville for the first time with a friend. We struggled between wanting to be downtown and close to the action and the hefty downtown prices. This apartment struck the perfect balance being just about 1 mile walk to the main downtown area and a very cheap Uber ride home after sampling some of the area’s craft beers. 🙂 The accommodations are clean and very cute. The main bedroom has a comfortable bed in addition to a comfortable pull-out couch and a nice daybed couch if you have a straggler who doesn’t mind a smaller bed. We found the location to be safe and the building to be very charming. Our hosts were lovely!

Where to begin… beautiful Spanish Revival Architecture in the heart of everything Asheville! The place was so nicely decorated. We could tell a lot of love was put into renovating the building. The owner was so sweet and always happy to give us suggestions on great things to do in the area. And we loved the old Annandale neighborhood. It was quiet, and the neighbors were all very friendly. There is even a yoga studio in the neighborhood. I highly recommend this one!!!

I had never been to Asheville before, but heard it was full of wonderful people, art, food and architecture. The apartment and its location epitomized this. The Starling is the upstairs unit. It has a quiet and private feel overlooking the Japanese maple tree. I enjoyed many hours of relaxing on the day bed and catching up on some good books. It also became a little haven for drinking my morning tea and embracing the new day. The apartment was very nicely decorated, yet still had a warmth like the comfort of my own home. It was far superior to the sterile environment of a hotel. The neighborhood has a nice quiet scene filled with architecture built in the 1920’s. It reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in back in TN. The residents are a wonderful mix of very friendly young and old. They made me feel right at home. The owners, Shay and David, were quick to respond to any needs I had. I developed a horrible tooth ache during my stay and Shay recommended her fantastic dentist, Dr. Poteat. She also recommended a great massage therapist and some wonderful yoga classes too. Although I was only there for 1 month, I feel like the owners and I have become friends and The Starling apartment is now my home away from home.

Absolutely beautiful! We found the apartment just as advertised. It was actually larger than I thought it would be. I was hoping to stay closer to downtown, but the location turned out to be great. We walked to dinner one night, and used über the other nights. It was a great relaxing mini vacation, and returning each night to an apartment, and not a hotel room, made it even better. This place is perfect!

I must start by saying that pictures don’t do justice to this comfortable apartment. My family and I had a great time. We spent a long weekend for our family reunion. We even celebrated my wedding anniversary and everything was so perfect. The decor had an eclectic style that we really enjoyed. The owner (or manager maybe) was so helpful we couldn’t ask for more. We are looking forward to visiting again soon! Thanks for all the assistance throughout the planning process and answering every single question.

We had so much fun! Asheville truly is the beer capital and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The downtown area must have 10 or 20 craft breweries within walking distance of each other. After a night of live music and yummy beer, it only cost $5 to Uber our way back to the apartment for a good night’s sleep. The location was super convenient and the town itself is super fun. No complaints. It was a perfect stay.
